Hon. Nesauro H. Firme

Atty. Nesauro H. Firme was born in Balayan, Batangas and was humbly reared by his mother who was a public school teacher and by his father who was a researcher at the National Museum.

During his school days, Atty. Firme was consistently awarded as an honor student. In high school, Atty. Firme was a feature writer for The Torchbearer - the official organ of the Philippine Normal University Laboratory School. Because of his dedication and aim for perfection, he eventually became its Associate Editor. He graduated in 1995 and was cited as the batch’s 1st Honorable Mention.

Atty. Firme entered the Faculty Arts and Letters, University of Santo Tomas for his college where he finished the degree of AB Legal Management in 1999, and during which he became a Dean’s Lister from 1997 to 1999. During his entire stint in college, Atty. Firme was granted by the University with St. Martin de Porres Scholarship.

Atty. Firme took up his law at the Faculty of Civil Law, University of Santo Tomas in 1999. He graduated in 2003 and became part of its upper class. Immediately after passing the bar the following year, he went into private practice where he eventually co-founded his law firm – Oliva Firme & Associates Law Firm.

Hailed from a family of educators, Atty. Firme found his passion for teaching in 2008 where he began teaching business law subjects at the Department of Accountancy, De La Salle University – Dasmariñas Campus.

In 2013, Atty. Firme started teaching at the Colleges of Law of Polytechnic University of the Philippines and Jose Rizal University. For about a decade in the legal academe, he was tasked particularly by the JRU to, aside from teaching different law subjects, formulate syllabus and program course for the law subjects Summer Apprenticeship, Juris Doctor Thesis, and Clinical Legal Education Program.

Apart from being a member of the academe, Atty. Firme also held various positions in several government offices. In 2008, Atty. Firme got immense exposure to local governance after being appointed as a Legal Consultant for the Office of the City Mayor of Mandaluyong City. During that time, Atty. Firme handled the Public Private Partnership matters for the City. From May 2015 to June 2016, Atty. Firme, being a Land Titles and Deeds professor, was tapped to work as a Consultant for the Presidential Commission on Good Government to render legal opinions on land registration concerns of PCGG. In 2017, Atty. Firme became the Chairman of Mandaluyong City’s People’s Law Enforcement Board (PLEB). In 2018, Atty. Firme’s legal services was procured as Legal Specialist for the review, revision and drafting of the Implementing Rules and Regulation of the Traditional and Alternative Medicine Act of 1997, under the Philippine Institute of Traditional and Alternative Health Care, Department of Health. From January 2021 up until February 2022, Atty. Firme worked as the Executive Assistant/Consultant of then Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Benjamin C. Abalos, Jr. wherein he performed the functions of a Chief of Staff.

Through his years of legal practice, Atty. Firme has rendered various legal services by specializing in corporate legal practice, which includes actual handling of intellectual property, administrative, appellate, labor, civil, and criminal cases. He further enriched his legal acumen by gaining grasp on international oil trade and by practicing election laws after being hired as lecturer/counsel for several local and national candidates.

Atty. Firme is married to Honorable Regional Trial Court Judge Karen C. Maramba-Firme and they are blessed with three wonderful kids: Natanya Kamille, Natalia Krystle, and Kian Nataniel.

Given his extensive exposure in the field of law both as a litigation lawyer and as a professor coupled by his fruitful stint in the government service, Atty. Firme is a welcome addition to the Judicial and Bar Council to carry out the Supreme Court’s mandate of getting persons of proven competence, integrity, probity, and independence to serve the judiciary.
